Free SAT Practice Test PDF with Answers and Solutions (2026)

Last checked: October 15, 2026.

The most realistic SAT practice tests cost nothing. College Board, the organisation that writes the real exam, publishes them for free, and every one comes with answers and full explanations.

Here’s the short version. College Board has posted eight official full-length SAT practice tests as PDFs (Practice Tests 4 to 11). Each test comes with a scoring guide and an answer explanation file that shows why the right choice is right and why the other three aren’t. All 24 direct links are in the table below, and they match College Board’s paper practice page as of October 15, 2026.

One thing to know before you print anything: these PDFs are paper versions of a digital exam. They’re fixed, longer and not adaptive, so they feel different from the test you’ll take in the Bluebook app. We cover those differences below, along with how to score a paper test, how to review it and how to fit all eight into a study plan.

Download the Official SAT Practice Test PDFs (Tests 4 to 11)

College Board’s paper practice test page lists eight full-length SAT tests. Each bundle has three files: the test, a scoring guide and the answer explanations.

What’s inside each bundle

  • The test PDF. A full-length, non-adaptive practice test. You can circle your answers on the PDF or track them on separate paper.
  • The scoring guide. An answer key, plus directions for working out your section and total scores.
  • The answer explanations. A written explanation for every question, covering why the correct choice is the best one and why the others aren’t.

What about Tests 1 to 3?

Some older pages still link to earlier tests. College Board’s current paper practice page lists Tests 4 through 11, so start there. Download straight from College Board rather than a repost, so you always get the current version of the test and answer key.

How the SAT Practice Test PDFs Differ From the Real Digital SAT

On test day you’ll use the Bluebook app, and the test adapts to you. The PDFs are fixed paper versions, and the differences go beyond adaptivity. Practice Test 4 is a good example.

Paper PDF (Test 4)Real SAT in Bluebook
FormatNon-adaptive. Everyone sees the same questions.Adaptive. How you do in Module 1 shapes Module 2.
Questions66 Reading and Writing + 54 Math54 Reading and Writing + 44 Math
Time39 minutes per Reading and Writing module, 43 per Math module (164 minutes of testing)64 minutes Reading and Writing, 70 minutes Math (134 minutes of testing)
Break10 minutes between sections10 minutes between sections
ScoringBy hand with the scoring guideAutomatic, with question review in My Practice
CalculatorAllowed on every Math questionBuilt-in tools. Try them in the test preview.

So a Test 4 sitting runs about 30 minutes longer than the real exam. Check the timing printed on the back page of the test you pick, because that’s the clock to follow.

What College Board recommends

College Board says the PDFs suit students who will test on paper with accommodations, since the PDF versions aren’t adaptive. For everyone else, it suggests taking at least one adaptive practice test in Bluebook before test day. The same practice tests are free inside the app, and College Board’s guide to using Bluebook practice tests explains how to start.

Our take: use the PDFs for slow, careful work. Annotate, review every miss, and redo questions on paper. Use Bluebook to rehearse the real thing: the screen, the timer and the adaptive second module.

What the Real SAT Looks Like in 2026

Knowing the target helps you read your PDF results sensibly. College Board’s structure page gives these numbers:

SectionQuestionsTimeModules
Reading and Writing5464 minutesTwo, 32 minutes each
Math4470 minutesTwo, 35 minutes each
Total98134 minutes (2 hours 14 minutes)10-minute break between sections

Scores run from 400 to 1600, made up of two section scores between 200 and 800. In each section, the first module has a mix of easy, medium and hard questions. Your result there decides whether the second module is harder or easier.

Here’s what each section covers, according to College Board’s pages on Reading and Writing and Math:

SectionContent areasQuestions per area
Reading and WritingInformation and Ideas, Craft and Structure, Expression of Ideas, Standard English ConventionsEach module draws from all four
MathAlgebra13 to 15
MathAdvanced Math13 to 15
MathProblem-Solving and Data Analysis5 to 7
MathGeometry and Trigonometry5 to 7

Algebra and Advanced Math together make up roughly 26 to 30 of the 44 Math questions, so that’s where Math practice pays off most. About 30% of Math questions are word problems set in a real-world, science or social studies context.

How to Take an SAT Practice Test PDF, Step by Step

Taking a test casually gives you a number that means very little. Treat it like the real thing.

  1. Block out about three hours. Test 4 allows 39 minutes per Reading and Writing module and 43 per Math module, with a 10-minute break. If you have approved extra time for the real exam, add it.
  2. Print the test, or use a tablet with a pen. Circle answers in the booklet as the directions say, or log them on separate paper.
  3. Work one module at a time. Stop when time is up and never go back to an earlier module. If you finish early, check only that module.
  4. Use a calculator for Math. The directions allow one on every question.
  5. Follow the rules for typed-in answers. Student-produced responses can be up to 5 characters (6 if negative), with no percent signs, commas or dollar signs. If a fraction runs too long, write the decimal.
  6. Keep your phone out of reach and take the break. Stamina is part of what you’re measuring.

How to Score a Paper SAT Practice Test (and Learn From It)

Open the scoring guide for your test. Count your correct answers in each module, add the two modules together for each section’s raw score, then use the conversion table to get a section score. For these paper tests, the guide gives your total as a range, not a single number.

Then comes the part that actually raises scores: review. The answer explanations are there to be used, so read the one for every question you missed and for every question you got right by guessing.

Sort every mistake

Write one line next to each miss saying why it happened. Patterns show up fast.

Mistake typeWhat it looks likeWhat to do next
CarelessYou knew it but slipped: a sign error, a misread questionUnderline what the question asks before you answer
Content gapYou didn’t know the rule or methodLearn it, then do 5 to 10 similar questions, filtered by skill
Trap answerYou picked a choice that sounds right but isn’t supportedRead why each wrong choice fails in the explanation
TimingYou rushed or ran out of timePractise pacing one module at a time

Redo your missed questions a few days later without looking at the explanation. If you can solve them cold, the lesson stuck.

A Six-Week Plan Using the Official SAT Practice Tests

You have eight official tests, so there’s no need to burn them all in a month. One full test every other week leaves room for review and targeted work.

WeekFocusWhat to do
1BaselineTake Test 4 cold, score it and start your mistake log
2Fix weak spotsPractise your two weakest skills with the Student Question Bank and Khan Academy
3First timed checkTake Test 5 under test conditions and compare it with Test 4 section by section
4Targeted practiceTopic sets, plus a cold redo of missed questions from Tests 4 and 5
5Second timed checkTake Test 6, then review every miss
6Rehearse test dayTake one adaptive test in Bluebook, do light review and check your device

Tests 7 to 11 are your reserve if you need more weeks or plan to retake the SAT. Keep at least one unseen for the final stretch.

Free Official Tools to Use Alongside the SAT Practice Test PDFs

  • Bluebook. The app you’ll test in. It has a short, untimed test preview and full-length practice tests that are timed like the real thing.
  • My Practice. After a Bluebook practice test you can view and download scores, review questions and get tailored practice.
  • Student Question Bank. Thousands of official questions you can filter by section, domain, skill and difficulty.
  • Question of the Day. A quick daily habit when you don’t have time for a full set.

Set a Target Score With Official U.S. Government Data

A good SAT score depends on where you apply. These government tools help you pick a target instead of guessing.

ToolRun byWhat it’s good for
College NavigatorNational Center for Education Statistics, U.S. Department of EducationChecking whether a college requires, considers or ignores SAT scores, and the score range of enrolled students when reported
College ScorecardU.S. Department of EducationComparing costs, graduation rates, debt and earnings

EducationUSA IndiaU.S. Department of StateAdvising for students in India on studying at accredited U.S. colleges
Occupational Outlook HandbookU.S. Bureau of Labor StatisticsPay and job outlook for careers linked to your major

One catch: College Navigator only shows test score ranges when a college reports them, and colleges are generally asked to report them when scores are required. For test-optional colleges, check the college’s own admissions page. A simple way to set a target is to shortlist three to five colleges, note the middle range of SAT scores for enrolled students, and aim for the upper half.

If you’re applying from India

The SAT is mainly used for admission to colleges abroad. If you’re still comparing routes, CATMOCK’s exam pages cover CUET UG, NMIMS NPAT and IPMAT Indore, and the exam details hub lists every entrance exam in one place. For the SAT itself, CATMOCK’s SAT exam page covers the pattern and syllabus and explains its counselling support for choosing colleges.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are official SAT practice tests really free?

Yes. College Board offers its paper practice tests as free PDF downloads, and the same tests are available free inside the Bluebook app. Each paper bundle includes the test, a scoring guide and answer explanations.

Where can I find SAT practice test answers and solutions?

Each official bundle has a scoring guide with the answer key and a separate answer explanations PDF. The explanations cover every question, including why the correct choice is best and why the other choices aren’t. Direct links are in the download table above.

Is the PDF practice test the same as the real digital SAT?

Not exactly. The PDFs are non-adaptive and longer. Test 4, for example, has 66 Reading and Writing and 54 Math questions, against 54 and 44 on the real test. The real SAT also adapts in the second module of each section. College Board recommends the PDFs mainly for students testing on paper with accommodations and suggests at least one adaptive Bluebook test before test day.

How many SAT practice tests should I take?

There’s no official number, and reviewing matters more than counting. A plan like the six-week one above uses three paper tests and one Bluebook test, with the rest of the time spent on review and targeted practice. Keep at least one official test unseen for the final stretch.

How do I calculate my score from a PDF practice test?

Count your correct answers in each module, add the two modules together for each section’s raw score, then use the conversion table in the scoring guide to get your section score. For paper tests, the scoring guide gives your total score as a range.

Your Next Step

Download Test 4 and its scoring guide, set aside three hours, and take it under test conditions. Score it, sort your mistakes, and only then move on to the next test. That order matters more than how many tests you finish.
