Most of them hide the one fact that matters: a college accepting GMAT does not mean every programme at that college does. At most IIMs, GMAT opens the one-year executive MBAs, not the two-year MBA that CAT feeds.

This guide sorts Indian business schools by what you can actually apply to, whether you are an experienced professional, a fresher or an overseas-based applicant. It separates rules confirmed on the institutes’ own admission pages from details reported elsewhere. All details below are as of 3 November 2026.

Quick Summary

Question

Short answer

Does India accept GMAT?

Yes, but programme by programme

Biggest GMAT users

One-year and executive MBAs at IIMs, and ISB

Can freshers use GMAT?

Yes, at schools such as SPJIMR (PGDM) and ISB’s PGP YL

Is there one cut-off?

No. Most schools publish no fixed minimum

How long is a GMAT score valid?

Five years from the test date, but schools set their own windows

Online (home) GMAT accepted?

Not at ISB, IIM Ahmedabad or IIM Calcutta

Does India Accept the GMAT?

Yes. GMAC’s own list says more than 200 programmes at over 140 Indian schools accepted GMAT scores as of 2023, and that these schools generally attract candidates with work experience. Acceptance is spread unevenly, so it helps to group programmes into three kinds:

One-year and executive MBAs for professionals with four or more years of experience.

ISB’s programmes, which run on GMAT or GRE.

Some two-year PGDM programmes (for example SPJIMR) that take GMAT as an alternative to CAT.

At the flagship two-year IIM MBAs, CAT is the main route for Indian residents. GMAC’s list adds that some IIMs take GMAT for those programmes from NRIs, persons of Indian origin and Indian candidates based abroad who cannot take CAT. IIM Bangalore’s 2026-28 batch profile, for example, reports 15 international students admitted through GMAT with an average score of 713.

GMAT Focus Edition: What Indian Applicants Need to Know

The older 200–800 GMAT has been replaced by the Focus Edition. Each has its own experience rules and its own way of using your score.

IIM Calcutta MBAEx is the clearest example. Its official 2027-28 policy sets a minimum GMAT at the 50th percentile (565 on Focus and 600 on Classic in the July 2025 concordance table), and it applies the same percentile floor to both editions. It adds that the previous batch’s average GMAT was above the 85th percentile. The GMAT carries 25% of the final composite score, alongside the interview (30%), work experience (15%), the written test (15%), academics (10%) and diversity (5%). The institute also states that online (take-home) scores are not valid. You can read the full rules in IIM Calcutta’s MBAEx admissions policy.

Also Read: IIM Indore Executive Post Graduate Programme 2027: Admission Requirements and Programme Format

IIM Bangalore’s PGPEM (a modular programme for working professionals) also accepts GMAT, GRE, CAT or the IIMB Test. Its work-experience requirement is stated differently across published notices, so check IIM Bangalore’s current page before applying.

ISB: the most GMAT-friendly Indian school

ISB’s one-year PGP requires a bachelor’s degree, at least 24 months of full-time experience as of 31 March, and a valid test-centre GMAT or GRE. Since the April 2025 intake, ISB does not accept online or home-based scores. ISB sets no fixed minimum score, but reported class profiles put the GMAT Focus average in the high 660s, so treat that as a competitive benchmark, not a rule.

ISB’s PGP YL is different: it is a 20-month programme for applicants with up to 24 months of experience, and it accepts GMAT, GRE or CAT.

Two-year PGDM programmes that accept GMAT

SPJIMR takes CAT 2026 or a valid GMAT for its PGDM and PGDM (Business Management) 2027-29 batch. Reported details: freshers can apply, experience up to five years is accepted, and the application deadline is 27 November 2026. GMAT test dates accepted run from 1 January 2024 to 10 December 2026, according to institute information reported by education news sites, so check the window on SPJIMR’s page.

GMAC’s list (published November 2023) also names MDI Gurgaon, IMT Ghaziabad, TAPMI, Great Lakes, IMI Delhi, FORE and XIMB among private schools that accepted GMAT. Programme rules and score expectations change by year, so treat that list as a starting point and verify each school’s current page.

GMAT Accepting Colleges in India Without Work Experience

If you are a fresher, your GMAT options are narrower but real:

Option

Experience allowed

Test

SPJIMR PGDM / PGDM (BM)

0–5 years

CAT 2026 or GMAT

ISB PGP YL

0–24 months

GMAT, GRE or CAT

Executive MBAs are not an option for freshers: all the IIM programmes above require four or more years. A flagship two-year IIM MBA via GMAT is generally limited to overseas-based or international applicants. If you hold a foreign degree or live abroad, see which management entrance exams accept foreign degrees for equivalence rules.

GMAT Score Needed for Indian Business Schools

There is no single “GMAT cut-off for India,” and many quoted figures use the retired 200–800 scale. Which colleges in India accept GMAT?
ISB, the IIM executive programmes (Ahmedabad PGPX, Bangalore EPGP, Calcutta MBAEx, Indore EPGP, Lucknow IPMX) and schools such as SPJIMR accept GMAT. Acceptance varies by programme.

Q2. Does IIM accept GMAT?
Yes, but mainly for one-year executive MBAs. For flagship two-year MBAs, CAT is the main route for Indian residents, and GMAT is generally for overseas-based or international applicants.

Q3. Is GMAT mandatory for ISB?
ISB’s PGP requires GMAT or GRE (test-centre based). PGP YL accepts GMAT, GRE or CAT.

Q4. What GMAT score do Indian colleges require?
Most publish no fixed minimum. IIM Calcutta MBAEx requires at least the 50th percentile, and admitted batches score much higher.

Q5. Which colleges accept GMAT without work experience?
SPJIMR’s PGDM accepts freshers and up to five years of experience, and ISB’s PGP YL accepts up to 24 months.

Q6. Is GMAT or CAT better for an MBA in India?
CAT opens the flagship two-year IIM MBAs and most Indian B-schools. GMAT suits experienced professionals targeting executive or ISB programmes.

Q7. How long is a GMAT score valid for Indian B-schools?
GMAC scores last five years, but schools set their own windows. IIM Calcutta MBAEx, for example, requires a score within 36 months of 1 August 2026.

Q8. Do Indian colleges accept online GMAT scores?
ISB, IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta accept only test-centre scores. Rules differ elsewhere, so check each school.

GMAT Accepting Colleges in India: Conclusion

GMAT accepting colleges in India are plentiful, but the useful question is which programme accepts your score and your experience. Experienced professionals have the widest choice at IIM executive programmes and ISB, freshers have SPJIMR and ISB’s PGP YL, and CAT remains the route to a flagship IIM MBA. Match your experience to the programme first, check the validity window next, and confirm every rule on the institute’s own page before you register.

You May Also Like : CAT MOCK, CAT MOCK PYQ
Follow Us On : Facebook, Instagram, Youtube

Search for GMAT accepting colleges in India and you will find lists of 10, 20 or even 150 names.
