XET 2026 Cutoff Scores

XET cutoffs are calculated as a composite score: 60% weightage from the XET entrance test + 40% weightage from Class 12 marks. Since St. Xavier's is a linguistic/religious minority institution, cutoffs are published separately for Christian and General categories (not the typical OBC/SC/ST state-reservation categories used by government colleges). Figures below reflect the 2026 first merit list for BMS (B.Com in Management Studies) and will be updated once 2027 cutoffs are released.

CollegeGeneralOBCSCST
St. Xavier's College, Mumbai (BMS)82.00 (Maharashtra Board) / 87.52 (Other Boards)N/AN/AN/A
How XET Cutoff is Determined
01
Category (Christian vs. General)
As a linguistic/religious minority institution, Christian-category candidates have a separate, generally lower cutoff (71.07 Maharashtra Board / 77.72 Other Boards in 2026) than General category.
02
Number of applicants & seat availability
BMS has ~120 seats; cutoff rises or falls each round based on how many candidates apply and how many seats remain after prior rounds.
03
Board of Class 12
Candidates from "Other Boards" (CBSE/ICSE/IB) typically need a higher composite score than Maharashtra State Board candidates, due to differing marking scales.
04
XET–Class 12 weightage split
The 60:40 (XET:Class 12) weightage formula means strong entrance test performance can offset a moderate Class 12 score, and vice versa.
05
Special category reservations
Separate (often lower) cutoffs apply for SWD (students with disabilities), sports quota, and management quota (15% of seats).

XET Preparation Tips
Subject-Wise Recommended Books
English Language & Comprehension
  • Wren & Martin's High School English Grammar and Composition (grammar fundamentals);
  • Norman Lewis's Word Power Made Easy (vocabulary building);
  • High School Grammar workbooks for practice sets;
  • daily editorial reading from The Hindu or Indian Express for comprehension speed
Logical & Visual Reasoning
  • R.S. Aggarwal's A Modern Approach to Verbal & Non-Verbal Reasoning;
  • M.K. Pandey's Analytical Reasoning for advanced practice;
  • puzzle books for visual/pattern reasoning (mirror images, water images, figure completion)
Mathematics (Class 10 level)
  • R.D. Sharma or R.S. Aggarwal Class 10 Mathematics textbook (core syllabus source);
  • NCERT Class 10 Maths for concept clarity;
  • Quantum CAT (Sarvesh Verma) — only the basic/foundation chapters, since XET stays at Class 10 difficulty
Data Interpretation
  • R.S. Aggarwal's Quantitative Aptitude — DI chapters only;
  • Arun Sharma's DI & LR book for extra practice sets (use selectively, it's calibrated for tougher exams)
General Knowledge / General Awareness
  • Manorama Yearbook or Lucent's General Knowledge for static GK;
  • Pratiyogita Darpan monthly current affairs;
  • a daily current-affairs app or newspaper habit — GK carries real weight and is the most commonly under-prepared section
Study Schedule
6–8 weeks is a realistic prep window if starting from scratch: Weeks 1–2: Build fundamentals — Class 10 Maths concepts, grammar rules, reasoning basics Weeks 3–4: Topic-wise practice with timed sets for each section Weeks 5–6: Full-length mock tests (2 hours, 100 Qs) under exam conditions, 2–3 per week Weeks 7–8: Error analysis, revise weak areas, light daily current affairs, one final mock 3–4 days before the exam Daily: 30–45 min GK/current affairs reading throughout, since this section is often under-prepared
Mock Test Strategy
Attempt full-length mocks strictly under 2-hour timed conditions to build stamina and pacing. Since there's no sectional time limit, decide your own time budget per section in advance (e.g., ~25 min each for English, Reasoning, Maths, DI, and GK) and stick to it in mocks. Since there's no negative marking, treat every mock as an "attempt everything" drill — never leave time on the table without guessing. Review each mock within 24 hours: log which topics cost you the most time or accuracy, and target those in the following week. Track your score trend across mocks, not just one test — aim for a consistent, not just a peak, score.

Negative Marking Awareness
XET has NO negative marking — each correct answer earns 1 mark, and there is no penalty for wrong or unattempted questions. This means candidates should attempt every question, even with partial certainty, rather than skip out of fear of losing marks. Guessing intelligently after eliminating 1–2 options is a sound strategy here (unlike exams like CAT or XAT which do penalize wrong answers).
Exam-Day Tips
Carry your self-attested admit card, one original photo ID, and a photocopy of the ID — checked strictly at the centre. Arrive at least 30–45 minutes before the reporting time; centres outside Mumbai and in Mumbai run on different exam dates, so double-check your slot. Since it's a 2-hour test with no sectional time limit, do a quick first pass through all sections to grab easy marks, then return to harder questions — don't get stuck early on tough items. Keep an eye on the clock at the halfway mark (~60 min) to ensure balanced time across all 5 sections. Since it's MCQ-based with no negative marking, never leave a question blank — attempt everything, even if it's an educated guess in the last few minutes.
XET Counselling Process

St. Xavier's XET counselling is a merit-list-driven process handled directly by the college — there is no separate centralized counselling round like in MHT-CET or MBA CAP. Step 1 — Merit List Release Once XET results are declared, St. Xavier's publishes category-wise merit lists on its official admission portal. The composite score used is 60% XET marks + 40% Class 12 marks. Merit lists are released across multiple rounds (typically 2–3), starting with the First Merit List. Step 2 — Check Your Rank & Category Log in using your application number and check where you stand within your category (General, Christian, SWD, sports quota, management quota, etc.). Each category has its own separate cutoff, so compare your composite score against the relevant cutoff for your category, not the overall list. Step 3 — Document Verification Shortlisted candidates must report (often with a parent/guardian) for document verification at the college. Required documents typically include: - Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets (or provisional/appearing certificate) - School/college leaving certificate - Date of birth proof - Category certificate (if applicable — Christian, SC/ST/OBC, EWS, SWD, etc.) - Passport-size photographs - XET admit card and scorecard Step 4 — Seat Confirmation & Fee Payment After successful document verification, candidates must pay the admission fee within the specified deadline to confirm their seat. Missing this deadline forfeits the offered seat, and it moves to the next round. Step 5 — Subsequent Rounds (if applicable) If seats remain vacant after Round 1, the college releases a second (and sometimes third) merit list, drawing from the waitlist. Candidates who weren't shortlisted in Round 1 should keep checking the portal rather than assuming they're out — round-wise cutoffs typically drop as rounds progress. Step 6 — Reporting & Enrollment Once fees are paid and documents are verified, candidates complete final enrollment formalities and are officially admitted to the program (BMS / BAMCJ / B.Sc IT / B.Sc DSAI, as applicable). Important Notes: - All communication is through the candidate's login dashboard and registered email/phone — check regularly during results season. - St. Xavier's does NOT conduct group discussions or personal interviews for BMS/BAMCJ admission — selection is purely score-based. - Preference in borderline cases may be given to students from Xavier's affiliated schools, as per college policy. - There is no separate "willingness" or "choice-filling" step like centralized counselling systems — your program/course choice is fixed at the time of XET registration itself.
