Baby IIMs IPM 2027: Entrance Exam, Fees, Eligibility & More

Five newer IIMs, commonly called “Baby IIMs,” now offer the 5-year Integrated Programme in Management alongside IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak: IIM Jammu, IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Amritsar, IIM Ranchi, and IIM Shillong. Each carries the IIM brand while accepting a different entrance exam, following its own fee structure, and applying its own eligibility rules.

This guide compares all five Baby IIMs offering IPM 2027 on the factors that matter most to a 12th-pass applicant: which entrance exam to prepare for, how much the full program costs, and what marks a candidate needs to even apply.

If you’re a Class 12 student aiming for an IIM tag straight after school, the 5-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) at Baby IIMs is one of the most direct routes available. For the 2027 admission cycle, five Baby IIMs run a genuine IPM program — IIM Jammu, IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Amritsar, IIM Ranchi, and IIM Shillong — each combining a three-year undergraduate phase with a two-year MBA, with an exit option after year three.

This guide compares the Baby IIMs IPM 2027 entrance exam, eligibility criteria, fee structure, seat intake, and placement outcomes for all five institutes in one place so you can shortlist which exam to prepare for and which institute fits your budget and profile.

The Integrated Programme in Management is a dual-degree pathway launched by IIM Indore in 2011 and since adopted by several other IIMs, including a group of newer, smaller institutes commonly called “Baby IIMs.” Students join directly after Class 12, complete a three-year foundation phase (typically awarded a BBA or an equivalent undergraduate degree), and then move into the two-year MBA phase at the same institute without appearing for CAT again.

For students clear about a management career early, IPM compresses what would otherwise be a bachelor’s degree plus a separate CAT-based MBA into a single five-year, IIM-branded journey—provided they’re comfortable committing to management as a direction right after school.

Here’s how the five Baby IIMs running IPM programs for 2027 compare on entrance exams, seat intake, and recent average placements.

Two separate entrance exams grant entry into Baby IIMs’ IPM programs, and they aren’t interchangeable—a JIPMAT score doesn’t get you into an IPMAT-Indore-accepting institute, and vice versa.

IPMAT Indore (Accepted by Ranchi, Amritsar, Shillong)

Conducted by IIM Indore, this exam consists of a Quantitative Ability MCQ section, a Quantitative Ability short answer (non-MCQ) section, and a Verbal Ability section. Each section runs for 40 minutes, and negative marking of -1 applies only to the MCQ-format questions.

JIPMAT (Accepted by Jammu, Bodh Gaya)

The Joint Integrated Programme in Management Admission Test is conducted by the National Testing Agency and covers Quantitative Aptitude, Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning, and Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension—structurally closer to the CAT format than IPMAT Indore is.

Eligibility is broadly similar across Baby IIMs, with two notable exceptions: IIM Amritsar’s mandatory Mathematics requirement, and small variations in the qualifying-year window.

KEY INSIGHT: IIM Amritsar is the only Baby IIM in this group that mandates Mathematics or Applied Mathematics in Class 12—commerce and humanities students without Maths should rule this institute out early rather than discovering it at the application stage.

Fees are charged year-wise through the BBA phase, with the final two MBA years billed at whatever the prevailing MBA fee is for that batch—so the total 5-year cost isn’t fully fixed at admission time.

IIM Jammu

IIM Jammu’s IPM runs on JIPMAT, with roughly 140 seats and an average recent placement around ₹16.04 LPA. The program is fully residential, awarding a BBA after three years and an MBA on completion of the full five years.

IIM Bodh Gaya

Also admitting through JIPMAT, IIM Bodh Gaya offers around 120 IPM seats with an average placement close to ₹16 LPA. Its fee structure is comparatively lighter in the early years, making it one of the more budget-accessible Baby IIM IPM options.

IIM Amritsar

IIM Amritsar accepts IPMAT Indore and is distinctive for two reasons: it mandates Mathematics in Class 12, and it awards a BSc in Quantitative Finance & Economics as its exit degree rather than a standard BBA. With around 60 seats, it has posted a strong top-quartile average placement near ₹19.73 LPA.

IIM Ranchi

One of the earliest Baby IIMs to launch IPM (2021), IIM Ranchi accepts IPMAT Indore scores, runs roughly 120 seats, and has reported average placements around ₹19.29 LPA, with the highest packages reported well above ₹50 LPA in recent cycles.

IIM Shillong

IIM Shillong’s IPM program is comparatively newer, accepting IPMAT Indore scores through a multi-stage shortlisting and personal-interview process. Its fee structure is on the lighter side for the first three years, though placement data is still stabilizing as early batches progress through the program.

Recent average placement figures across these five institutes cluster in the ₹16-20 LPA range, with IIM Ranchi and IIM Amritsar currently reporting the strongest numbers among this group. That said, IPM placement data matures over several years as each institute’s earliest batches graduate and industry recognition builds—a newer program like Shillong’s is likely to see figures shift as its track record lengthens.

IMPORTANT CAVEAT: Placement figures for newer IPM batches at Baby IIMs are based on limited cohort sizes and early recruitment cycles, so treat them as directional rather than guaranteed outcomes — always cross-check the latest official placement report from each institute.

While exact dates are notified separately by each institute, the broad Baby IIMs IPM 2027 application window typically follows this pattern: entrance exam registration opens in the first quarter of the year (around February-March for IPMAT Indore, similarly timed for JIPMAT), the exam itself is conducted around May, results and shortlists follow through June, and personal interviews plus final offers are completed by July-August ahead of the academic session starting that autumn.

  • Register separately for IPMAT Indore or JIPMAT, whichever exam your target institute accepts.
  • Submit Class 10 and 12 marks accurately using each board’s own percentage or CGPA conversion method.
  • Track each institute’s own application form deadline—IIM Ranchi, for instance, notified its 2027 application separately from the exam registration window.
  • Keep category certificates (SC/ST/PwD, if applicable) ready in the prescribed format, since relaxed marks and age criteria require valid documentation at verification.

Baby IIMs IPM 2027 gives Class 12 aspirants a genuine, direct route into an IIM-branded management degree without waiting for a CAT attempt after graduation. The right institute for you depends less on ranking and more on fit: which entrance exam matches your strengths (IPMAT Indore’s short-answer Quant versus JIPMAT’s CAT-style DILR section), what fee range your family can commit to across five years, and whether a stream-specific requirement like IIM Amritsar’s Mathematics mandate applies to you. Confirm exact seats, fees, and eligibility windows against each institute’s official 2027 notification before applying, since these figures are revised every admission cycle.

Cross-check official notifications on the IIM CAT admissions portal at iimcat.ac.in and each institute’s own website before finalizing your application.

Five Baby IIMs offer the 5-year Integrated Programme in Management for 2027: IIM Jammu, IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Amritsar, IIM Ranchi, and IIM Shillong.

IIM Ranchi, IIM Amritsar, and IIM Shillong accept IPMAT Indore scores. IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya use JIPMAT, conducted jointly by the National Testing Agency.

General category candidates need a minimum of 60% in Class 10 and 12 (55% for SC/ST/PwD), from any stream, except IIM Amritsar, which requires Mathematics or Applied Mathematics in Class 12.

The first three years (BBA phase) typically cost between roughly ₹15 lakh and ₹20 lakh across Baby IIMs, with the final two MBA years charged at the prevailing MBA fee of that batch year.

Average placements at Baby IIMs offering IPM range roughly between ₹16 LPA and ₹19.7 LPA based on recent placement reports, though figures vary year to year and by institute.
