The Financial Times MBA rankings 2026 conversation in India is really about one list: the FT Masters in Management ranking, released on 7 September 2026. A record 14 Indian business schools made the global top 100, up from 11 last year. IIM Bangalore leads the Indian group at 21st in the world, and SPJIMR, IIM Ahmedabad, XLRI and IIM Calcutta follow.
This guide covers the world’s top 10, the leading European schools and every Indian school on the list. It also explains how the FT scores schools and how to use the results when choosing a programme.
Key takeaways at a glance
- University of St. Gallen is No. 1 globally, its 15th title in 16 years.
- IIM Bangalore (21st) is India’s best and the only Indian school in the global top 25.
- SPJIMR (26th) edged ahead of IIM Ahmedabad (27th=) and IIM Calcutta (39th=).

What Are the FT MBA Rankings 2026, and Why Are They Called MiM?
The FT runs several business school rankings each year. The FT MiM rankings 2026 assess pre-experience master’s programmes, meaning degrees for people with little or no work experience. Many Indian two-year flagship programmes, such as the PGP at IIM Bangalore, fit this category even though students call them MBAs. That is why searches for “FT MBA ranking” often land on the MiM table.
The FT’s separate Global MBA ranking is published at a different time of year and covers a different set of programmes. Check which list a school quotes before comparing numbers.
The ranking draws on two surveys: one completed by schools and one by alumni who graduated in 2023. Alumni responses carry about 56% of the total weight and school data about 44%.

Eight of the top 10 schools are in Europe. The two exceptions are Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s Antai College in China and Rabat Business School in Morocco.

| 1 | University of St. Gallen | Switzerland | 1 | 150,490 |

St. Gallen holds the top spot again
St. Gallen’s cohort is tiny at 58 students. Even so, it posts the highest weighted salary among the top 10 and ranks second in the world for alumni-network strength. The school has now topped this ranking 15 times in 16 years.
Movers and surprises in the top 10
- Nova (Portugal) rose two places to No. 2, its best result so far.
- Antai (China) climbed three places to No. 3 on the strength of a No. 2 value-for-money rank.
- Vlerick (Belgium) jumped eight places to a share of sixth and ranks No. 1 worldwide for alumni network.
- IESE (Spain) also gained eight places, entering the top 10 for the first time.
- Rabat Business School rose from 20th to 10th, the first African programme to reach the top 10.
- INSEAD and HEC Paris both slipped, to 4th and 5th respectively, so no French school made the podium.
Top European Business Schools in the FT MiM Rankings 2026
Europe dominates the FT MiM rankings. France alone places 23 programmes in the top 100, and the UK has nine. The table below lists the highest-ranked European schools.
| Rank 2026 | School | Country | Rank 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | University of St. Gallen | Switzerland | 1 |
| 2 | Nova SBE | Portugal | 4 |
| 4 | INSEAD | France | 3 |
| 5 | HEC Paris | France | 2 |
| 6= | ESCP Business School | France | 7 |
| 6= | Vlerick Business School | Belgium | 14 |
| 8 | IESE Business School | Spain | 16 |
| 9 | Stockholm School of Economics | Sweden | 9 |
| 11 | Prague University of Economics and Business | Czech Republic | 17 |
| 12 | emlyon Business School | France | 12 |
| 13= | ESSEC Business School | France | 10 |

| 13= | Rotterdam School of Management | Netherlands | New |
| 16 | London Business School | UK | 10 |
| 17= | EDHEC Business School | France | 14 |
| 17= | Paris School of Business | France | 43 |
| 19 | WHU – Otto Beisheim | Germany | 22 |
| 20 | SDA Bocconi | Italy | 13 |
Two patterns stand out. First, French schools are numerous but spread out, with several in the top 20 yet none on the podium. Second, London Business School at 16th is the highest-ranked UK school, so no UK school made the top 10.

IIM Bangalore: India’s highest-ranked school at 21st
IIM Bangalore rose seven places from 28th. It had been 41st in 2024, so the climb has run for two years. It is the only Indian school in the global top 25, and its $189,428 weighted salary is the second highest in the entire ranking.
SPJIMR: the surprise at 26th
SPJIMR moved up nine places to finish ahead of IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta. Its strongest number is the alumni network, where it ranks 6th in the world, ahead of every other Indian school.
IIM Ahmedabad: top global salary, mid-table overall
IIM Ahmedabad shares 27th place. Its weighted salary of $199,706 is the highest of all 100 schools. Salary is only one part of the score, though. Its 82.7% “aims achieved” figure and 57th value-for-money rank held back its overall position.
XLRI: the biggest Indian climb
XLRI rose 25 places, from 58th to 33rd, the sharpest improvement among Indian schools. Its weighted salary of $183,994 is third highest in the world, and it ranks 14th for alumni network.
IIM Calcutta, MDI and the rest
IIM Calcutta holds 39th, up two places, with a $179,953 weighted salary. MDI Gurgaon ranks 67th, up five, and its $151,603 salary is higher than the top-ranked school’s. IIM Indore (+23) and IIM Kozhikode (+15) posted large gains. IIM Lucknow fell 15 places to 72nd, and NMIMS Mumbai, IMT Ghaziabad and TA Pai entered the ranking.
Why Indian schools dominate the salary charts
Seven of the eight highest weighted salaries in the world belong to Indian schools: IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, XLRI, IIM Calcutta, SPJIMR, IIM Lucknow and MDI Gurgaon. St. Gallen is the only non-Indian school in that group.
There is a caveat. The FT converts alumni pay to purchasing-power-parity dollars, which can lift figures from lower-cost countries. High salary is real evidence of strong placements, but it is not a like-for-like comparison with pay in Zurich or Paris.
The value-for-money reality check
No Indian school ranks higher than 50th on value for money. The IIMs sit between 57th and 87th on that measure, and SPJIMR is the best at 50th. Alumni in Europe and China often rate tuition against outcomes more favourably. If fees matter to you, read this column as closely as the headline rank.
How the FT Calculates the MiM Ranking
The FT uses 19 weighted criteria. Weighted salary alone carries 15%.
| Criteria group | Examples | Combined weight |
|---|---|---|
| Alumni pay and outcomes | Weighted salary (15%), salary increase (9%), value for money (6%), career progress (6%), aims achieved (6%), careers service (5%), alumni network (3%), employment at three months (5%) | 55% |
| Diversity | Female faculty, female students, international faculty, international students, advisory and board representation | 22% |
| International experience and sustainability | International work mobility (6%), international course experience (6%), faculty with doctorates (4%), ESG and net-zero teaching (3%), carbon footprint (4%) | 23% |
Because pay and outcomes make up over half the score, schools with strong salary growth tend to rise. Diversity criteria, such as the share of female students and international faculty, are where many Indian schools lose ground.
How to Use the FT MiM Rankings 2026 When Choosing a School
- Compare the right list. A school’s FT MiM rank is not its FT Global MBA rank, so don’t mix the two.
- Look past the overall number. Check weighted salary, value for money and alumni network separately.
- Treat ties and small gaps lightly. IIM Ahmedabad (27th=) and SPJIMR (26th) are close, and a single rank place rarely reflects a real quality gap.
- Match the ranking to your goal. Consulting and finance aspirants often weigh placements, while career-switchers may prefer alumni-network strength.
- Combine sources. Read the FT alongside NIRF, QS and your own campus research.
