Exam Difficulty & Preparation Strategy
Difficulty Ranking
The ranking in terms of difficulty, starting from the hardest to the easiest, depends on expert opinion and past analysis of the articles:
• CAT: It is very hard indeed. The QA and DILR sections especially demand super speed and accuracy.
• XAT: Very hard. The unique nature of the test makes it so that the decision making section demands experience with ethical/rational reasoning. The strategic complexity increases with the penalty of non-attempting questions.
• NMAT: Moderate. 108 questions in 120 minutes means a pretty fast pace, but the stress is reduced due to the lack of negative marking.
SNAP: Moderate. The 60 questions in 60 minutes are pretty fast, but not as hard. Multiple attempts prove to be useful.
| Exam | Dedicated Prep (Months) | Overlap with CAT | Key Focus Areas |
| CAT | 4–6 months | Baseline | VARC, DILR, QA |
| XAT | 4–6 months | 80% | Decision Making + GK + Essay |
| SNAP | 2–3 months | 70% | Speed, accuracy, time management |
| NMAT | 2–3 months | 65% | Language + LR + Attempt all Qs |
